Trampoline & DMT Squad
Over the last 10 years we have increased from only 2 competitive trampolinists to now over 25 members competing across a number of different competitions in both Trampoline & DMT outside of club competitions.
Alongside the Aspire Cup, London also runs the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup qualifiers. This is for trampolinists competing in Level 1 through to Level 4 an opportunity to represent London in the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Finals normally held at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. The top scores across both qualifying events are taken with the top 24 like Aspire being invited to take part in the finals. The top 2 on the finals day across each level & age group are selected to represent London. Both 2023 & 2024 have seen us take a record 9 members across both trampoline & DMT to represent London in the finals with Twizzlers coaches also being asked to coach Team London
Twizzlers also compete in the National Trampoline & DMT League. This takes place in 3 venues across the country which in 2025 for Twizzlers will be the University Of Bath and Cardiff, we will not be competing in the Northern one this year. There are 4 leagues starting with League 3, League 2, League 1 & Super League all of which have a minimum requirements in regards to difficulties and skills required. The competition format is also slightly different in regards to scoring where points are awarded based on your first 2 jumps which count towards qualification for the finals and then the top 8 in each category compete a final round for a medal on the day. DMT is very slightly different for the medal placing where the top 8 take part in a 3rd pass then top 4 following that compete for the medal in a final pass.
Trampoline league is the next step up from Inter-Regional as you jump against other trampolinists from all over the country but you also do start to meet new people and gain new friendships. It does provide great experience jumping at large events at final like venues with large crowds. Trampoline league is invitational only but for a guide need to be jumping or working towards Regional Level 3
We also have squad members competing at the English Trampoline & DMT Championships as well as the world governing body FIG (Federation Internationale De Gymnastique) events including the British Championships for the first time in 2025.
Following on from a successful weekend at the David Ward Hunt Cup which is another FIG International event in 2024 we will also be looking at taking part in other FIG International Events.
For English & FIG events Squad members need to be jumping at or working towards skills around or above Regional Level 4 with focus on improving all elements of trampolining which are Difficulty, Time Of Flight, Execution & HD
What Are The Trampoline Squads?
Twizzlers doesn’t have an exact science around squads as they are all working to achieve the same goals, but due to increased numbers and to help in tracking progress Twizzlers have broken gymnasts down into 2 squads, a Pre-Squad & Main Squad.
The training is the same for both but this just ensures progression skills are easily managed in the sessions for both gymnasts and coaches. Pre-Squad are also encouraged to train with the Squad regularly and on the lead up to competitions so they get familiar with faces they will see when competing. Pre-Squad is based around those competing in Aspire that would also like to compete at Inter-Regional and for those competing at Regional Level 1. Main Squad consists of those members competing at Regional Level 2 and above as well as those competing in the Trampoline League 3 or above.
Trampoline Squad Expectation?
We would like for all squads to be training between 4-6 hours a week in 2 hour sessions which ensures that there is plenty of time for progression skills and rotations around the trampoline. This is also important leading up to any competition to ensure each gymnasts is as prepared as they can be. We also look for squads to be doing floor warm ups without prompting, normally as a group before starting on the trampoline and take part in conditioning exercises at the end of the session. The Senior members of the squad will often be seen on the competition floor assisting and encouraging the younger members during competitions which allows coaches to focus on those that are competing, Many of the squad are also qualified coaches and you will see them coaching the younger members of Twizzlers as well as supporting each other during skill sessions.
There is also an opportunity to take part in a week long August training camp in Portugal near Faro Airport in Loule. This is an invitational only camp normally for those going into or at least Year 7 at school with an opportunity to work with a number of international High Performance Coaches most of which can be seen alongside their own countries at world events. Many of our gymnasts have come back with new skills and experiences that would normally take much longer to prepare for at home as well as the chance to work alongside gymansts and clubs from other countries and see how they train. Our coaches also gain a lot of experience and knowledge of how to be able to carry on these skills back home to enhance their own learning.
