“I really think a champion is defined not by their wins, but how they recover when they fall”

Competitive Squads

If your child shows talent, potential, and enthusiasm in gymnastics or trampolining, we may invite them to trial for one of our competitive squads. Invitations can come in different ways: some are noticed during regular classes, while others stand out at open competitions.

Joining the squads requires a commitment to train for at least 2 hours per week (in a single session), though we ideally expect 4 hours across two sessions. We also encourage squad members to participate in and represent Twizzlers at all available competitions.

Both Gymnastics & Trampolining have both Squads & Pre-Squads where Gymnastics also has a Mini-Squad. We group our squads based on the competition level of each gymnast. This allows us to offer tailored coaching that matches their abilities and ensures steady, safe progress as they master new skills

Squad Expectations

Squad-level athletes should focus on key areas beyond their normal sessions. This includes warming up as a group, with one athlete leading under the coach’s guidance. They should also support each other by spotting and matting. At the end of each session, athletes must pack away the equipment. Leading up to competitions, we expect everyone to train and work together as a team

Many of our Senior Squad members also give back by coaching recreational classes and supporting younger squad groups. Their experience and leadership are a great asset to our program and a positive influence on younger gymnasts

In 2025, our Gymnastics Squads will continue competing in local open events and regional competitions, building on the success we achieved in 2024. Our Trampoline Squads will also return to compete at regional and national levels

 Competitions

Twizzlers proudly competes in both gymnastics and trampoline at all levels, from local meets to national events. In addition to fees & memberships, competing at these events also has its additional costs

Monthly payments do not cover competition entry fees. These vary depending on the gymnasts level and the number of events entered. BG Membership may also need to be increased depending on the level competing.

Competitors usually need specific clothing for events—this again is an additional cost: the Twizzlers uniform. At a minimum, all athletes must wear the club leotard and shorts for external competitions. We also prefer them to wear the club tracksuit and a Twizzlers T-shirt, so the team looks unified and is easy to identify. Most trampoline squad members wear specialist shoes for better grip, or plain white socks if they prefer. Male trampolinists may also wear white trampoline trousers (longs) instead of shorts.

Children should reserve their competition leotards for events and use separate training leotards for weekly sessions.

For the 2026 season, our Gymnastics Squads will continue competing in local open events and regional competitions, building on the success we achieved in 2025. Our Trampoline Squads will also return to compete at regional and national levels

Regional Gymnastics

Something in here to go 🙂

Regional Trampoline

Those in Pre-Squad & Squad competing at Level 1 or above will compete at the London Inter-Regional qualifying competitions for a chance to represent London at the Inter-Regional Finals. These qualifying events are usually held at Redbridge Sports Centre, Ilford in Essex.

If your child then qualifies and represents London at the finals, they’ll take place, normally in July in Birmingham at the Utilita Arena. These  finals events often require an overnight stay for venue orientation the evening before.

National Trampoline

League competitors usually compete in at least one or two of the three qualifiers with the preferred option in Cardiff at the National Indoor Athletic Centre. The second event changes each season and is held at venues like the University of Birmingham, University of Bath, or University of Newcastle. These events require travel and may span the weekend, depending on the league and number of disciplines entered.

The English Championships take place over two qualifying weekends. One is usually in Telford at the International Centre, and the second takes place at venues like the University of Birmingham (Midlands). English Gold competitions normally take place on Saturdays, while Silver events occur on Sundays.

National Age Group competitions referred to as FIG, and are held at the Telford International Centre. These can be multi-day events if athletes compete in more than one discipline.

For more details on dates and locations of competitions please see the club calendar

If you have any questions around competition or additional costs or want to find out some of the locations we travel to please speak to Angie or Mel.
